About February’s Wellbeing Theme: Tend
Here’s Your Admin Strategy Guide for February 2026
Traditional Definition of Tend: To care for or look after; give one’s attention to.
How We’re Thinking About It: Small, consistent acts of care, for ourselves and each other, that foster gentle growth around you.
Why Tending Matters at work
Workloads are high early in the year, and many employees push through stress without stopping to check in with themselves or others. When people don’t feel cared for or don’t have room to care for themselves, fatigue easily starts to set in, motivation drops, and small issues turn into bigger problems.
This month’s theme is about making space for the simple things that keep people feeling cared for. When employees feel consistently supported, they recover faster from stress, ask for help sooner, and stay more engaged. Easy, practical actions like checking in on a teammate, naming what you have capacity for, or taking a short break to regroup help people stay connected and more capable to manage their day.
February is associated with care, attention, and relationships. It’s also a time when many teams start feeling worn down, especially with the festive holidays behind them and as the darker winter months continue. Building a culture that tends to people, to relationships, and to workload helps teams stay healthily above any potential burnout and prevents problems from piling up.
Bringing the Theme to Life
💬 Schedule Simple Check-Ins: Use short, predictable 1:1 or team check-ins focused on energy, workload, and what support people need. Keep it straightforward and consistent.
💗 Normalize Taking Short Breaks: Encourage short recovery breaks during the day. A five-minute breather, stretch, or walk is enough to collect your thoughts and helps prevent burnout.
💬 Share What’s on Your Plate: Have team members briefly share what’s on their plate for the week. It builds awareness, helps teams balance workloads, and makes it easier to spot when someone needs support.
🎁 Practice Quick Recognition: Invite team members to offer short messages of appreciation. A sentence or two is enough to remind people that their work or effort is seen.
📣 Model Care From Leadership: Encourage leaders to model healthy boundaries and share how they’re taking care of themselves, like ending meetings on time or or going outside for a quick walk and lunch break. When employees see leaders protecting their own wellbeing, it gives them permission to do the same.
